?? spring workshop of the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC)
Mar.21st , the 2008 spring workshop of YRCC was held in zhengzhou. This workshop was hosted by Department of Personnel, Labour and Education and Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology of YRCC jointly, with the topic ?sustaining the healthy life of the Yellow River and river ecology?. During the workshop, the young staff of YRCC and domestic and abroad experts in the front rank got together and discussed on the topic ?sustaining the healthy life of the Yellow River and river ecology? enthusiastically, delivering excellent speeches and hot discussion. With new viewpoints and achievements coming constantly, the workshop achieved a complete success in half a day.
Dialogue between Euexperts and yRCC young staff
The team leader of the TAT of EU-China River Basin Management Programme and expert on water pollution, Mr. Theo Henchens, and Mr. Rousell Frost, expert on water resource management were invited to attend and to give a lecture on ?early warning and Forecast on water pollution? and ?environmental permitting system in Europe?. The euexperts listened to the young staff?s presentations carefully, and asked many questions to share ideas. The direct talk between international experts and young staff, with freely saying one?s say, analyzed the situation of sustaining the healthy life of the Yellow River and shared the leading technological and management experiences in basin water environmental management inand out china, and discussed the helpful mode of management and the creative thoughts in basin management.
focus on impacts of climate change
Recently, the frequent emergence of extreme weather phenomenon caused by climate change came into international notice. During this workshop, prof. xia jun from Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS. gave a lecture on ?the adaptivity evaluation and the governance framework of the impact of climate change on water resource? which drew much attention of the attending experts and scholars, who showered their opinions on impacts of climate change on water management, especially the impact of climate change on the yellow river basinwater management which led to animated discussion.
Free English Communication
To improve the young staff?s English and to develop experts of international communication capacity, English was the required working language in the workshop. The fluent questioning and speeches in English from the chief engineers of YRCC, Xue songgui and liu xiaoyan, set an example and raised the initiative of communication in English. Both the attending Chinese and foreign experts, and the young staff of YRCC showered questions and speeches in a rush which forced the host to constantly reminding participants of the question time. Moreover, many lecturers were asked for ?further exchange after meeting?.
New Viewpoints, new ideas
This workshop provided young staff a stage to show their latest results, and an opportunity to discuss researches with famous experts. the topics such as ?methods of evaluating healthy life of yellow river? by wang yu from Yellow River Engineering Consultancy of YRCC, ?practice and outlook of ecological regulation in middle-lower yellow river? by ke sujuan from Department of Water Resources Management and Regulation, YRCC, and so on aroused interests of the attending Chinese and foreign experts, who presented their specific opinions and suggestions for the research directions and further researches, with amiable solicitude and guidance.
Well Prepared, Well performed
The attending staff all made good preparation for better performance in the meeting, especially some personnel of communication who came to the meeting place for rehearsals. Therefore, every speaker perfectly showed his ability of work, research and English communication, which won high praise from the attending experts.
